Tips and guidance for a happy healthy dog
Brush out your dogs coat thoroughly before bathing to ensure that if there are any matted clumps, they won’t get full of soap and tighten with the application of water. It will be a lot easier once dried to brush through the dog’s coat.
For a happy healthy dog my top three tips are very simple:
- A healthy diet
- Regular grooming
- Regular exercise
You should brush your dog every other day and have it clipped every 6 to 8 weeks if possible. This varies for different types of coats and breed. Regular exercise is essential to keep your dog happy and to maintain a good body shape.
Your dog should see grooming as fun, and not as a punishment, so always approach it as a positive way to bond with your dog.
While grooming your dog, you can also check the skin for lumps and bumps and check the ears and mouth. Always contact your vet if you find anything unusual!
FLEAS
- Fleas jump onto your pet and lay their eggs
- Eggs drop off onto surroundings
- Larvae hatch from the eggs
- Larvae develop into pupa
- Pupa hatches into adult and the circle commences
Flea Facts
- All pets can get fleas.
- Fleas are not a sign of poor hygiene; they are blood sucking parasites like mosquitoes.
- 95% of the fleas’ lifecycle takes place OFF the pet and only 5% on it.
- The ONLY thing that will kill flea pupae is a flame thrower!
- Pupae must therefore be encouraged to hatch before the emerging adult fleas can be killed.
- Fleas will bite and start sucking blood within seconds of landing on a cat or dog
